Tonya May Avent

Raised in strict Christian household, Tonya entered adulthood knowing the Word of God in her mind, but not always in her heart. After serving 8+ years in children and youth ministries, she observed the young people she taught did not have a firm grasp or understanding of the Word of God, or Christianity in general, including her own children.

As a former athlete, the wife of a USA Basketball, FIBA, Semi-Pro and High School Basketball coach, and mother to 2 All-American athletes, sports heavily impacted Tonya May Avent. And then a serious injury to her oldest daughter completely changed her life.

While her daughter was recovering, Tonya started Destined 4 the Dub Ministries, which focuses on ministering the gospel through a sports lens, on the premise of 1 Corinthians 15:57: Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Tonya is an engaging speaker, teacher, and award-winning author who has contributed to Chicken Soup for the Soul and has written for Guideposts and Stay Focused magazines. Her first book, Using God’s Playbook for the Game of Life: 52 Scriptures Your Young Athlete Should Know Before Sending Them Off Into the World is a devotional for young athletes scheduled for release on September 3rd, 2022.

Tonya uses Destined 4 the Dub to share how to use the Bible as a personal “Playbook” to win against life’s challenges, offering personal stories relating to the intersection of her Faith, her Family, their athletic pursuits, and everyday life challenges.

Tonya has been married to Kenny Avent for 20 years. They reside in New Jersey with their two daughters, Kennedi (17) and Kassadi (14).

My purpose in writing is to be an “agent of change”.
