I struggled with writing last week’s blog. On Monday I received a praise report that a family friend was in remission after her bout with cancer. Then on Tuesday I received news that a close family member had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
It was a very emotional experience sharing my testimony about my sister, as I don’t believe I’ve ever talked about it before. And I’m so thankful for what God has done and is continuing to do in her life.
But it still left me thinking – what do I say to people that have experienced a loss? And those who prayed, and believed, and trusted God, but are still dealing with their sickness?
I thought it would be inauthentic to not address this subject after last week’s testimony of victory. I’ve heard people say “some people are healed on earth, but others won’t be healed until they see God.” How does God decide who is healed and when? I don’t know the answer, although I question this often.
As Believers, all we can do is walk by Faith.
Faith in what?
Faith in the Word of God. And I know I said “all we can do” but believe me, this is MORE than enough.
I have a prayer journal filled with people I’m praying for. Whenever someone mentions a personal or loved one’s illness, I’ll often write their name down, and pray regularly for them.
For each prayer request, I declare the following scriptures over them. And I say them with the full conviction that God is listening, and will always honor His Word.
I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. (Psalms 118: 17 KJV)
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10 NKJV)
The Lord says, I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation. (Psalms 91:14-16 NIV)
This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. (Psalms 91:2-3 NLT)
This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, “He took our sickness and removed our diseases.” (Matthew 8:17 NLT)
Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span. (Exodus 23:25-26 NIV)*
[*I also pray this for couples that are trying to conceive.]
Can we really stand on and believe these scriptures for healing? Today’s Play Prediction confirms that we certainly can! These words aren’t in the Bible just for empty reading – just as the rain and snow come down from heaven to water the earth (verse 10) so does the Word of God (the Bible) accomplish what was spoken – every word stated from the Word of God through faith MUST be fulfilled.
The promises in the Word of God and our faith are all we have in our fight again sickness and disease. And believe me, that’s all we need. As declared above, Jesus came so we might have not just LIFE, but an abundant LIFE. The Word states it, so it must be accomplished once it is spoken. Have you spoken it? Do you believe it?
What did you think when reading the above scriptures? Think about your health situation, or that of a loved one. What scripture(s) will you commit to daily declaring and believing for healing? If you are struggling to believe, what do you think is causing your doubt? Do you believe it will be accomplished in your or your loved one’s life?
